Vintage Hawaiiana Wedding: Lindsey & Kawika

Lindsey and Kawika are so fun and laidback. They met at a beer festival in the summer of 2018. It was closing night of the festival and they we were both trying to get rid of their beer tickets. At the end of their search for the last beer of the night, they met and the rest is history!

Their wedding was an intimate family affair with a morning ceremony at a friend’s estate and a late lunch reception at their home. Then they jetted off on their honeymoon that evening.

Lindsey’s mom is an amazing cook and prepared the most beautiful spread of authentic local food. Her mom and aunty also handmade Lindsey’s haku pikake and pakalana lei. There was so much love put into those personal touches.

Lindsey found this vintage muʻumuʻu from Holoholo Surf that fit her like a glove and looked like it was custom made especially for her. I loved that her muʻumuʻu had color, and Kawika wore white.

I asked Lindsey what her favorite part of the day was and she said, “Everything was special. But probably the ceremony because family was there and it was the most intimate wedding I’ve been to. I’m so used to going to weddings with over 150 people, so our wedding was a cool, fun, intimate way to celebrate with the people we love. Also just the atmosphere was calm & scenery was so beautiful to me.

I’d like to note how I thought it was nice how we went to our honeymoon the old school way the same day as the wedding. I liked the mix of our ceremony with my wedding dress not being classic white and his outfit being white. I think what I’m trying to say is I liked how I kept some things different but did some things the classic way.

I recommend brides sticking to what they want to do for their wedding and not getting pressured by their family/friends of how to “do” their wedding. Do you and you’ll have no regrets on your special day, so you can look back and see how things were so special.”
